I Did It! Diabetic Cyclist Does Her 1st 100 Mile Ride!!

Yesterday, I completed my first century. (I’m the Red Rider in the center front, with Becca the super dog who is sniffing Chris Carmichael‘s elbow.) My total event time was slightly slower than I hoped, but I was really pleased with everything about my performance. My BG went higher than I would have liked early in the ride and I had one very surprising low with less than 10 miles to go that made me delay my finish a few minutes. All the advice from TeamWILD’s training program and all the practice I got leading up the the big day allowed me to handle those without worry. I owe much gratitude to my cousin who rode the entire ride with me, and to my whole team, the Pancremaniacs, most of whom waited for me to finish and were gathered at the finish line to cheer my arrival. I finished feeling surprisingly strong and pain-free. When I finally got to head home for a shower, I looked at my vision board and realized I DID IT!
